Wayans Collection: 1988 Original Media Press Kit for the movie 'I’m Gonna Git You Sucka'
I’m Gonna Git You Sucka is one of the greatest comedies ever made. It holds a special place in culture that can never be erased. This cult classic was written and directed by the great Keenen Ivory Wayans. Keenan had previously appeared in Robert Townsend's Hollywood Shuffle (1987), but I'm Gonna Git You Sucka was where he fully stepped into his own voice as a filmmaker. This movie was released in 1988. The film is a blaxploitation parody that still holds up in every way!
For some time now, I’ve been searching for collectibles that document the legacy of the Wayans family. As the years pass, icons like Keenen are getting older, and it feels important to make sure their contributions to film and comedy are never lost in history.
In my research, I came across an absolute gem, an original Media Press Kit for this film. Press kits from this era are notoriously difficult to find fully complete. Pieces go missing over the decades, understandably so. But I got very lucky with this one; every single component was included!
This find is just the beginning of the Wayans collection I’m building, and I couldn’t keep it to myself. Here is a look at what the kit included. Enjoy!
Side Note: I am working on getting a personal scanner to show the full contents of the packets in the future!
