SIGNED: Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music play program booklet (1983)
This was one of those once-in-a-lifetime finds.
I came across it in the most unassuming place: a used bookstore warehouse I used to frequent. Tucked away in a plastic sleeve was a play program booklet for Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music. Of course, I picked it up because it’s Lena Horne. I mean, come on… who wouldn’t?
As I flipped through the pages, I landed on her biography, and suddenly it felt like the heavens opened up. There it was. Her signature. Right there on the page.
I immediately snapped the booklet shut and looked around to make sure no one could see the absolute joy written all over my face.
Collector tip: As an African American collector, I often find that many of our most cherished cultural items tend to fly under the radar in white spaces. And honestly? That’s a good thing. It’s often how you strike gold and walk away with something priceless at an unbeatable price.
I rushed to the cashier, bought it, and took it straight home. I still admire this booklet every chance I get. And now, I want to share that feeling with you.
Enjoy this exclusive look inside!
