'Shaft in Africa' (1973) Lobby Cards
One day I was out and stopped by one of my favorite used bookstores. As usual, I headed straight to my go to shelves to see what I could find. After that, I started wandering into sections I normally pass by without much thought.
That’s when I saw it, a mountain of movie posters stacked on racks. My eyes lit up! I started looking through and immediately realized there were so many gems. I asked the woman working there where they had come from, and she explained that a man had put them on consignment for the store to sell.
Collector’s tip: Consignments aren’t a common find in used bookstores, but when it comes to posters, they can be one of the best ways to discover unique pieces you wouldn’t normally come across. Movie posters are hard to find outside of the internet, which makes moments like this so rare.
As I continued to look through, I noticed a small shelf nearby with what looked like mini posters. I didn’t know the correct term for it at first, so I quickly Googled it right there in the store. They’re called lobby cards, vintage photographic prints used from the 1910s through the 1980s to promote films in theater lobbies.
I had never knew these even existed!
As I flipped through the packs, there they were: lobby cards for Shaft in Africa(1973). I’ve never actually seen the movie, but I knew enough about it to know I wasn’t leaving without them. And the price? Let’s just say I had a come up! Such a special find to have.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
