1986 Jet Magazine: Jesse Jackson and Heads of African Nations Map Plans to Seek Shift in U.S. Policy
The world lost a giant in the movement. Reverend Jesse Jackson has transitioned at the age of 84.
While reflecting on his life and legacy, I revisited one of my finds: A 1986 edition of Jet magazine highlighting Reverend Jackson alongside heads of African nations as they mapped out plans to influence and shift U.S. policy. The issue offered a detailed account of their vision, a global strategy rooted in solidarity, diplomacy, and Black internationalism.
In honor of Reverend Jesse Jackson’s passing, I’m sharing an exclusive look inside that national report, a snapshot of a moment when Black leadership was shaping conversations far beyond America’s borders.
His voice may be stilled, but the movement continues.
He was one of the many iconic, unapologetic Black voices in the civil rights movement, a moral force who challenged America to live up to its promises.
But beyond the podium and the headlines, he was a son. A father. A grandfather. A friend to many.
